We've Arrived! - March 17, 2013

After the longest flight of my life most of us have arrived at our hotel in Berlin! I've now been awake for over 24 hours at this point but I'm still feeling pretty good so far. We aren't doing much today so the girls in my room just unpacked and Amber and I are hanging out in the lobby relaxing and reconnecting with the rest of the world on the Internet.

The flight was over 9 hours and I was sitting next to an old women who had to go to the bathroom every time I was just about to fall asleep. So that was fun. I always feel like your first day somewhere overseas is a blur. When I go back and read this blog post later it will probably seem really incoherent because of sleep deprivation, but whatever.

Amber and I are about to go out exploring the neighborhood while our other 2 roommates are napping. Later the entire group is having dinner at a biergarten which should be really nice. I'll update again once I'm more caught up on sleep and we've actually done something besides do our makeup and sit on Facebook.


First day Continued:

It's now the next day and this is the second time I'm updating this because the hotel internet went out right as I was trying to add pictures to the blog post, and then the entire thing got lost.

Megan, Jake, Amber and I decided to go exploring around our hotel. We walked around for about 2 hours. Our best discovery was an old cemetery that we found by trying to take a shortcut through a shaded path that led to it. After that we met back up with everyone at the hotel and went to a Berlin Wall memorial where everyone was taking pictures. I didn't bring my camera anywhere yesterday because I was way too tired to think about taking pictures. I definitely want to go back to the memorial next week though.

After that we went to Prater Biergarten which was really cool. The food was decently priced and the atmosphere was really chill. I had frankfurters, a pretzel and a Weißwein which I ordered in German and then acted very confused when the people actually responded to me in German. I may or may not have responded to what they said in Spanish... Anyway I really enjoyed the Biergarten.

We walked back to the hotel and on our way home we went to a delicious ice cream shop where I just ordered whatever looked good since I couldn't read what most of the flavors were. I want to go back there again as well.

I had planned on trying to go out with everyone last night but once I got into bed there was no way I was getting out to go anywhere. Our first evening in Berlin was really fun and I can't wait to get to know the city even more.
